Dawn Comer Jefferson is an award-winning writer, producer, author, and teaching artist. She has written and produced television dramas for broadcast and cable networks, and written Emmy winning live arts programming for PBS and the Los Angeles Music Center. Dawn was first nominated for an Emmy for writing the Fox animated film, Our Friend, Martin. Currently, Dawn is adapting the autobiography, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, for producers Suzanne de Passe and Willette Klausner, and writing a pilot based on the life of early civil rights pioneer, Barney Ford.

Dawn is the co-author of the non-fiction parenting guide Three Ring Circus: How Real Couples Balance Marriage, Work, and Family, and the African American historical children’s fiction The Promise.
Dawn’s essays have been featured in the travel anthology Go Girl: The Black Woman’s Guide to Travel and Adventure, an O Magazine book pick, and its recently released sequel, Go Girl 2! alongside stories from Alice Walker and Jill Nelson.

A graduate of the theatre program at Northwestern University, Dawn started her career in the Disney Writing Program. Dawn teaches screenwriting in the MFA Film and Television Writing program at Stephens College, the Stanford DCI Writes program, and the John Wells Division of Writing for Screen and Television at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts.

Dawn has two children and is married to a rocket scientist who navigates missions to the Moon and Mars.
